Over 2 mill download IE 9 first day.

Microsoft has revealed that 2.35 million people upgraded to Internet Explorer 9 in the first 24 hours of availability.

Microsoft's Ryan Gavin points out that this figure equates to over 27 downloads per second.

The full Beta version was released on Monday evening with many new features such as an improved streamlined design, pinned sites and a HTML friendly interface.

IE currently holds a 49% share of the market in the US, compared to the 28% held by Firefox.

However Firefox stole the majority share in the European market and the launch of Mozilla's Firefox 3 browser in 2008 was downloaded 8 million times in the first 24 hours.
