Supplies of the Apple iPad 2 have run out according to sources.
Gene Munster, analyst at Piper Jaffray, estimates that nearly half a million iPad 2 tablets have already been sold, the majority of these sold on Friday, launch day.
Stocks have yet to be replenished.
In a survey conducted on 236 purchasers, 70% were new buyers of iPad technology, compared to only 23% of buyers new to the iPhone 4.
This statistic is significant according to Munster who stated in a recent interview to CNN;
We believe this shows Apple is expanding its base of iPad users, which is critical to maintaining its early lead in the growing tablet market,” he said. “As the user base grows Apple's lead widens, and the company has a proven track record of building unmatched brand loyalty, which we believe will be a potent combination as the tablet market evolves."
